Important — Western Australia Road Rule Notice
CommutHub is a carpooling platform, not a rideshare or taxi service. Drivers using CommutHub are sharing their own commute and recovering a portion of their fuel and running costs from passengers travelling the same route. This activity is legal under Western Australian law provided the driver does not make a profit beyond reasonable cost recovery. By using this platform, all users acknowledge and accept this distinction.
CommutHub is an online platform that connects drivers and passengers travelling similar commuting routes in the Perth metropolitan area. CommutHub acts solely as a facilitator — we connect users but we are not a transport provider, taxi service, or rideshare operator.
CommutHub does not employ drivers, own vehicles, or control how individual journeys are conducted. All arrangements made between drivers and passengers are private agreements between those individuals.
To use CommutHub you must:
CommutHub reserves the right to refuse or revoke access to any user who provides false information or who violates these terms.
CommutHub operates strictly as a cost-sharing carpooling platform. This means:
WA Legal Note: Under the Transport (Road Passenger Services) Act 2018 (WA), providing on-demand transport for payment requires a licence. Carpooling for genuine cost-sharing is not considered a transport service under this Act. Users must ensure their arrangement meets the definition of cost-sharing carpooling and does not constitute a commercial service.
This is one of the most important sections of these terms. Please read it carefully before accepting any passengers.
Most standard private motor vehicle insurance policies in Western Australia do not cover the vehicle or its occupants when the vehicle is being used for any form of commercial or reward-based transport. This may include carpooling arrangements where a fare is charged, even if that fare is cost-sharing only.
Recommendation: Inform your insurer you intend to carry cost-sharing passengers on your regular commute. Some insurers offer carpooling endorsements or have no restriction on non-commercial cost-sharing. Get this confirmation in writing.
All drivers using CommutHub agree to:
All passengers using CommutHub agree to:
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. By adding a payment method you authorise CommutHub to charge the agreed fare at the time of booking.
CommutHub requires drivers to submit their driver's licence, vehicle registration, and insurance documents for manual review before being activated on the platform. Verification badges are displayed on driver profiles to indicate completed checks.
Verification does not constitute an endorsement of the driver by CommutHub. Users interact at their own risk and are encouraged to review ratings and feedback before confirming a booking.
CommutHub collects personal information including your name, contact details, location data, and payment information in order to operate the platform. We do not sell your data to third parties.
Proximity is shown to other users as an approximate distance (e.g. "2.1 km away") — your exact address is never shared. Chat and communication features are only unlocked after a booking is confirmed and payment is secured.
For full details on how your data is collected, stored, and used, refer to our Privacy Policy.
To the fullest extent permitted by Australian law, CommutHub is not liable for:
CommutHub's liability is limited in all cases to the value of the transaction fee paid to the platform in connection with the relevant booking.
CommutHub reserves the right to suspend or permanently remove any account that violates these terms, engages in fraudulent activity, receives consistent negative ratings, or poses a safety risk to other users. Users may close their account at any time by contacting support.
CommutHub may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page and notify registered users by email or in-app notification. Continued use of the platform after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia and the Commonwealth of Australia. Any disputes arising from the use of CommutHub will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Western Australia.
